Gonorrhoea causes different symptoms in women and men.
Most women with gonorrhea do not have symptoms or do not notice them. If left untreated, gonorrhoea can lead to infertility in both men and women and other sexual and reproductive health complications.
It also increases the risk of HIV infection.
In the EU/EEA region in 2021 there were over 46.500 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea.
In 2020 there were an estimated 82.4 million new infections among adults globally.
