VITAL Consortium

The VITAL (Vaccines and Infectious Diseases in the Ageing Population) initiative was developed to fill the gaps in the current knowledge related to vaccination for ageing adults and was sponsored by the European Union’s Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI).
The VITAL project addressed the following areas through four Work Packages (WP1–WP4):
- WP1: the burden of infectious diseases (and their consequences);
- WP2: the waning of the immune responsiveness associated with age and other intervening factors;
- WP3: the value of vaccination in older adults;
- WP4: the education/training of key stakeholders on vaccination of older adults.
Vaccines Europe is a partner in the VITAL Consortium, and through EFPIA, contributes to Work Package 4.
As a result of WP4, the VITAL educational platform (www.vitaledu.eu), targeted at healthcare professionals, was developed and published. It summarises the key findings of WP4 within the VITAL project and provides newly created materials (videos, infographics), links to relevant and reliable data sources on vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases, as well as overviews of available courses and training resources.
